The Royal City of Natakamani at Napata.
A Foundation between Egypt, Nubia and the Mediterranean
Prof. Dr. Emanuele Ciampini
The architectural programme of the king Natakamani in the ancient Napata (1st cent. AD) is the last, great historical phase of one of the most glorious cities of the Kushite kingdom. The results of the investigations carried out by the Italian Archaeological Mission in the palatial area are bringing to light the shattered remains of a monumental foundation, where the Meroitic culture merged the local tradition with northern patterns (pharaonic and Hellenistic), creating a new, original model.
